Valleys of Kashmir

 The valleys of Kashmir are a region in northern India, named for the Kashmir River. The valley is divided by the Great Himalayan Range into three parts: Pir Panjal, Baltistan and Kargil.

Valleys of Kashmir range from the beautiful lake Dal lake to snow-clad Nanga Parbat. The enchanting Srinagar town is surrounded by extraordinary landscapes. Kashmir Valley has numerous villages, fascinating valleys and unearthly landscapes which attract tourists across the world. The valleys of Kashmir offer better access to the main attractions of the region, while being relatively easy to reach.

The Valleys are an important part of Kashmir's geography. The Valleys have many subtropical to temperate forests. This is because of the mild climate of these regions where many flowers thrive in the fields, valleys and mountains.


Hills and Mountains 

A valley is a low area between hills or mountains. They are typically created by erosion from water. Vales of Kashmir are fertile and lush green valleys carved out by rivers and streams, the largest of which is the Jhelum River.

The valley's deep gorges, dense forests and multiple river systems provides a plethora of magnificent views. Nestled in the Himalayas and encircled by snow capped mountains, the valleys of Kashmir have been a treat for nature lovers and adventurers a like.



Himalayan range located

The Valleys of  Kashmir are a series of highlands of the Himalayan range located in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. The valleys are mostly surrounded by forests, but the peaks have been extensively exploited for timber and mineral resources.



Total Area

Kashmir valley is formed by three mountain ranges, namely the Pir Panjal Range, vast and narrow Gooltal Range and the Lower Himalayas. The Kashmir valley has a total area of 26,877 km2 which practically makes it an inland sea. It is spread over a length of 247 km (The Kashmir river languidly meanders through the valley) and breadth of 570 km in width.

The valleys are the main geographical features of Kashmir. They are located in Anantnag district, Ganderbal district and Srinagar district.


Pir Panjal Shahan 

The valleys of Kashmir or, more specifically, the Pir Panjal Shahan Valley is a part of the Kashmir valley. It is located in northwest India and northeast Pakistan, at an altitude of about 4,000 metres above sea level. The Valley is traversed by the Dasu River and its main tributary the Kali Bari river which rise from the high Himalayas just north of its north east corner into the Pir Panjal Range. The mountains constituting this range are known as Ladakhi Spiti or Himalayan Ranges between these valleys of Kashmir.

These valleys are located in the Western Himalayas, on the Indian side of Kashmir. With a long history, these valleys have seen many empires come and go, including that of Alexander the Great.


Kashmir means

The word Kashmir means “eight winds” or “river valley” in Sanskrit. River Srinagar, which joins Jhelum at Sheikhupura and goes towards south, belongs to the river system of Kashmir. It flows through several valleys in the northern and western parts of Kashmir.


Kashmir in India 

The valleys of Kashmir, also known as Shrinagar, is a city and district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is noted for its mountains, lakes, springs and gardens. Its economy has been developed primarily on tourism. Valleys of Kashmir is a series of valleys on the Indian side of the Line of Control. The Valleys of Kashmir are the main source for water for Leh and Kargil districts.The Valleys of Kashmir are formed by the accumulation of sediment in a series of long and narrow canyons, situated at varying levels within a system of mountains and ridges.


The valleys of Kashmir, also called Gagal, are three major and distinct valleys formed by tributaries of the Srinagar River flowing from the Himalayas.
